Welcome!

Hello prospective Wellesley students! My name is Laura and I am a junior at Wellesley. I'm going to be updating this blog once a week for the next year about life at Wellesley and beyond. This Fall I'm on campus but in the Spring semester I will be posting from my study abroad program at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Here's a little bit about myself: I hail from Long Island, New York but fortunately lack the accent to prove it (get used to those Boston accents ladies-they're a riot). Here at Wellesley I am a history major, concentrating in European history, and I'm pursuing a minor in religion, concentrating in Christianity. I am absolutely a self-proclaimed history dork. This summer I worked as a National Park Ranger at Boston National Historical Park (see photo of my very attractive park ranger uniform) and even on my off days I went to see local historical sites.

I do enjoy subjects beyond my major though. I have interests in languages (I'm dying to learn Polish), art history, philosophy and cultures around the world. I love traveling and I'm really excited to be studying at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland this spring. This semester I'm living in the dorm that I lived in my first year, Cazenove Hall (woot Quad)!

For my blog, I'll be highlighting one of my favorite spots on campus each week and why it's awesome. This week the spot is Paramecium Pond and here's a photo. Why is Paramecium Pond so awesome? There's a little bench on the other side of the pond and legend has it, a notebook is hidden there to write thoughts in. It's the perfect place for contemplation and tranquility. Plus if you're lucky and it's winter, you might see Professor Wendy Bauer from the astronomy department glide by on her ice skates practicing her figure skating moves.

That's all for this week! Check back next week for an update on moving in to Caz, the beginning of classes and a beloved Wellesley tradition called Flower Sunday, plus another favorite spot on campus!
