A Busy, Beautiful Weekend

MY WEEKEND WAS AMAZING

Slater Culture Show happened and it was incredible. It went so smoothly, all the performers were so great, and the fantastic e-board (pictured above) showed some amazing teamwork. It was an intense few months of preparation, but it all turned out so well that I have no complaints. This group of people, the international students of Wellesley College, are so talented and work so well together, I can’t be happier about being a part of such a welcoming community.

My Japan Club senpai (a way to say older friends with a bit of respect, in Japanese) came to support us and watched the show. At the end, they gave me flowers and I realized that I’m a part of another amazing community of Japanese Students (and students interested in Japanese language and culture) at Wellesley.

Then the Slater Eboard decided to go all out and give me a scooter as a gift for organizing the culture show. I love this school!!!!

Then, the next morning, I woke up bright and early and took the Amtrak to Providence, Rhode Island to see my brother at Brown University for Family and Friends Weekend. I had a blast spending the day with him and his friends, as well as seeing my friend and high school class president from back home.

My mom is too cute. When we told her I was at Brown, she sent my brother and me this photo of the gifts we got her when we got in to our respective schools. She is obsessed with bears. I am obsessed with this photo.

After a hectic weekend, I was able to be a part of an amazing event called Carry the Weight. Here’s a description of the event by Wellesley’s only on-campus sexual assault awareness and support group, SAAFE: “This day of action is originally inspired by the efforts of Columbia University student Emma Sulkowicz who is boldly carrying a dorm mattress around campus as long as her rapist continues to attend her school. Emma’s art piece represents the fundamental need for survivors and activists to collaborate in supporting this movement. Carrying a mattress together will bring this community closer, not just to the issues at hand but to one another. “

So many things about this weekend made me LOVE being a part of Wellesley. It makes studying for midterms and writing papers that much easier to do.. kind of.
