If you live in the northeast you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say this past weekend was unreal. I think that might have been the coldest I have ever been in my entire life. When I saw that it was -20 degrees out – and couldn’t tell if that was Celsius or Fahrenheit – I knew I shouldn’t have been outside.
But it was my good friend Kai (center, halo)’s 21st birthday this weekend, so we (all 20+ of us. and then her extended family the next day) were celebrating her existence for an entire weekend.
It was so great to see some alumni of Wellesley/Phi Sig that live in New York ^^ One of the seniors last year that really changed my Wellesley experience works in the city now, and I hadn’t seen here in almost a year!! I loved catching up with her and celebrating Kai with all of our friends
I also met up with my dad! We celebrated a wonderful valentine’s weekend together. Telling him about my experiences in Tokyo and Europe as well as the start to my semester felt so great to do in person. We’re both facebook freaks so we keep up with our lives online, but it’s definitely different having brunch or going to a jazz bar with your dad and talking to him about the stuff that matters in eachothers lives.
I discussed with him my major, and the direction I wanted to take my studies in. Being a Women’s and Gender Studies Major, there’s always a bit of anxiety over deciding what to do after graduation since there isn’t a set of careers directly connected to WGST…other than in academia, maybe. I’ve been thinking about going to Law School after Wellesley and it was great to know that both my parents are on board with the idea.
I also told him about the housing situation at wellesley – the lack of renovations, disorganized system housing arrangements, health code violations – and asked his advice. How do I make sure that my experience at the school that has promised us a great liberal arts education is not ruined by this? How can I and other students help improve Wellesley for ourselves, but also for our siblings and future students that will come to call this place home?

Oh yea, then on Sunday night I got back to Boston in time for the one and only, Ms. Lauryn Hill. I have been in love with her since the first time I saw Sister Act 2 back when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. I have been crushing on her hard for so long, and have been listening to her music since I was so young, it felt all the more surreal when she came on stage (3 hours late. but whatever ill wait for the queen) and sang some of her classics.
Needless to say, I have a lot of work I need to catch up on this weekend. It hasn’t even been a full month since I’ve been back but it feels like it’s been ages already. In the best way possible.
