recovering

As someone who spends most of her time reading, writing and talking about public health, I try to practice what I learn. Care for oneself before caring for others, be aware of the affect one’s actions have on the community, etc.

So when I started having headaches on Friday last week, I ignored it, like anyone whose friend from out of town was visiting would do. I ignored it and proceeded to have a ridiculously busy and action-packed weekend. And on Sunday, when the headaches disappeared but the soar throat and stuffy nose came around, when my prospie (prospective student) came from California for Spring Open Campus, I again chose to ignore the symptoms.

By the time Tuesday rolled around and my prospie had gone home, I had a fever and could not get out of bed for the next day. My body was telling me to take some time for myself and I was finally able to.

But then I got stuck by myself in my bed, being lazy and festering in my own negativity. I had to be physically dragged out of my bed by my dearest friend kathy slop. without any explanation she knew I needed to be outside and with people who could give me the positivity I was lacking.
