Snow Days

It’s been snowing a lot so I’ve spent a lot of time indoors. But on the rare occasions I do step outside, the campus looks awesome.

We’ve had so many snow days in the two and a half weeks of spring semester, that I’m still definitely in break mode. It’s been great being back on campus and hanging out with friends, and occasionally going to class, but it’s really throwing me off that I have every other day off. Plus it’s just very cold out a lot of the time and I keep wondering why I willingly came to a place with so much snow. But then I look over at my roommate working on her computer science homework and jamming out to Gwen Stefani, and then my friends come in to the room to hang out and talk about nothing and everything, then I realize that’s why I’m here.

Meanwhile, Japan Club has been prepping for our big event of the year, Yuki Matsuri (snow festival) that’s happening this Saturday. We’ll have food, games, and performances. Japan Club can be really time consuming but being on the executive board for this organization has helped me make friends with people who love Japan as much as I do, as well as given me opportunities to speak Japanese on campus.

I’m also in a society on campus called Alpha Phi Sigma. Wellesley does not have sororities, but this would be the closest thing. There are several other societies on campus that have different focuses (like literature, politics, arts), but Phi Sig is a lecture society that was founded in 1876 by the founder of Wellesley College. Right now, we are in the midst of our “tea season” when we meet people who are interested in joining our society. I’ve met some great first-year students at the teas I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise. I’ve made some amazing friends through Phi Sig, and I’m excited for the incoming class to find their close-knit community at Wellesley that I’ve found.
