Things are looking up. Though we’ve had a few warm days sprinkled in over the past few weeks, it seems like spring is finally here to stay. The Adirondack chairs on the quad are fully occupied. Yesterday I had a photoshoot and a picnic with friends, and today I went for another beautiful bike ride. I just took a 45-minute walk in shorts and a t-shirt while talking on the phone, and now I’m writing this indoors, because I can’t get any work done outside or near other people. Daylight savings pushed back sunset, and this week I’ve been hanging out at dinner for over an hour, not quite realizing how much time has passed because it’s still light out.
My mom is scheduled to get her second vaccine dose on Friday. In a couple weeks, once immunity takes hold, I’ll be somewhat confident that she won’t get sick from covid. For the first time in a year, I feel like I can almost breathe again. Everyone I talk to knows someone who’s in the clear, and I think we’re all feeling a bit of relief. Not to let our guard down, but to know that our loved ones will be okay.
We’re heading into the last full week of term 3. My only math test of the term is on Tuesday, and I still need to review past homeworks. My annotated bibliography for my sociology project is all set to be turned in tomorrow. There are always photos to edit and cover letters to write. On the bright side, my finals period will be pretty low-key, as I’ll give my final sociology presentation on the last day of class, a week from Tuesday.
I’ve done so much work this weekend, but I’ve also had so much fun: taking photos and getting my photo taken, eating takeout, zooming with both high school and college friends, biking, eating a bagel on the patio. Balancing the grind with fun is what college is about. And now, as the sun comes out and the vaccines go in, the grind is feeling a little bit lighter.
