First times in a while

I keep having “first time in a while” moments. Last week, I rowed on the Charles for the first time in a while. Yesterday, I ate at Bates for the first time in a while. This morning, I did work in the Shafer living room—quiet and empty on a Sunday morning—for the first time in a while.

I was gone for a long time. I spent the spring semester in the Galapagos, in an island town so small I could run its perimeter in less than four miles. I spent a week in the Amazon and a couple in Quito. I lived in Lisbon for much of the summer, traveled alone through northern Spain and out to the Azores, and returned to Massachusetts at the end of July. Five or six weeks later, I was moving my stuff to the third floor of Shafer, using an empty trash can because the moving bins were nowhere to be found, and now I’m two weeks into my senior year. I’m back in the Wellesley grind, for the first time in a while.

Hi. I’m Macy. I’m from Framingham, MA, but I’ve spent enough time in Spain, Ecuador, and Portugal to call houses there home. I’m majoring in peace & justice studies, and I’m going to be a journalist. I commit an absurd amount of time to the varsity crew team, and this semester, I’m interning with GBH News. My favorite places to study are outside: hammocking on the quad or by the lake, or sitting at a table near Munger or Lulu. My favorite dining hall is Tower, my favorite dorm is Shafer, and my favorite academic building is probably Founders or Green.

I have plenty of stories to share, from all the places I’ve been and the place I am now. I’m excited to document my fourth and final year at Wellesley. It’s off to a good start.

There will be more, but that’s all for this one: my first blog post in a while.
