Home for break

My only final was a research and analysis paper due on Thursday. I was going to stay in my dorm until then so I could focus on that and pack later, but with a sizable amount of snow coming, I decided to come home Wednesday evening. I have the luxury of living 20 minutes from campus, so when people asked when I was planning to leave, I usually just shrugged like, we’ll see.

So I’m home! I turned my paper in on Thursday morning and fired up the snowthrower to clear my 300ish-foot driveway. Snow days at home have never been tons of fun for me, since they’re almost always spent tackling the miserable task of clearing the driveway to my mother’s standards, but the right clothes go a long way. With my parka, two pairs of pants, snow boots, gloves, balaclava, and hood, I made my way up and down, up and down the driveway, until it was finally passable. We got over a foot of snow. Clearing it took three hours. I was exhausted. (My mom was like, I told you it was hard…)

With that done, I’ve taken a few days to not do much. I set my bike up on the trainer in the basement, so I can exercise despite snowed-on sidewalks. (I’ve been watching Little Fires Everywhere while I spin. I really enjoyed the book, but I don’t remember how it ends, so this is exciting all over again.) My mom took me to the new grocery store in town for the first time, which was exciting. She’s been working 12-hour days at home, so we took advantage of her day off yesterday to run some errands and watch a movie. (The Devil Wears Prada! It was our first time seeing it. I liked it. I have some thoughts.)

Course registration is making me nervous, given the small number of in-person classes offered in the spring, but I’m hoping for the best. Ideally, I’ll take one class toward my major and one to fulfill a distribution requirement in term 3, then go to Spain in term 4. I’ll have an update for you next week!
