It’s been busy, to say the least

For the first time in my Wellesley career, I swapped a course during the add/drop period. I switched into a travel writing class because I’ve done all this traveling, and I want to be forced to write about it. I love reading about my classmates’ adventures and throwing around ideas about how to improve our next drafts.

My Fulbright application is due next week, and I’m knee-deep in revisions. I spent eight hours working on it this week. (Thanks to Google Calendar for keeping track.) The folks at Career Ed are a godsend, but I’m excited to get the whole thing over with. Crew is also keeping me quite busyI can’t say I ever get used to waking up at 4:18, but at least I’ve found a rhythm.

And there’s more: I started my internship with GBH! I’ve mostly been researching current news topics for upcoming TV programs, but I already got a baby byline.

Last weekend, I did schoolwork all of Saturday afternoon and got to the library soon after it opened on Sunday. I was cranking out a first draft about my trip to North Seymour Island in the Galapagos when my friend Caroline asked if I wanted to go apple picking. I’d missed the signup sheet because our house president had sent it out after I’d gone to bed, but spots had opened up at the last minute. I’d wanted to go apple picking since my first year fall, when my team trip was canceled due to concerns over EEE, so I hustled back to Shafer and climbed into a car with Caroline and two other friends. The orchard was small, as was the bag Caroline soon filled with apples, but it was so fun and pure to pick apples from trees and take them home.

President Johnson held a reception for seniors on Thursday afternoon. I walked over with my hallmates, picking up friends along the way. We found our faces in the first-year photo and got pictures with President Johnson. I’m surprised by how many seniors I don’t know, but also how many I do.

This weekend was work-heavy, but it was good, productive work that felt good. Yesterday was Fulbright day, and today I caught up on classwork. Somewhere in there, though, I made time to watch Bake Off and take a walk around the lake.
