Time to Breathe

I took my only exam on Tuesday afternoon, and my mom brought me home that night. When I don’t need to pack lightly, I don’t, so getting everything in the car was a bit of an ordeal. I brought home my guitar, ukulele, dirty laundry hamper, a small suitcase full of odds and ends, my friend’s goldfish, and a rowing machine, which my coaches lent me for break. The rowing machine is all set up in my makeshift exercise room, and the fish are swimming around their bowl on my desk. I like looking over and seeing their little fishy eyes and mouths.

As much as I appreciate the constant availability of prepared food in the dining halls at Wellesley, it’s nice to cook for myself. I made whole wheat bread on Thursday that was way too easy and turned out really well, along with this Instant Pot lentil dal that I ate a bunch of when I was on a soft diet this spring. This morning I blended almonds into almond butter. Before school starts again, I want to try making sushi. I don’t make anything fancy, but I really enjoy putting my own meals together.

Freshly ground almond butter!

Homemade bread!

I cracked open my Portuguese textbook this morning. I need to learn the first nine lessons before jumping into the 200-level course next semester. So far, most of the words are similar to their Spanish counterparts, but I have no idea how to pronounce anything. Here’s hoping the Google Translate robot voice is somewhat accurate.

Along with learning a new language over break, I’m applying for summer jobs, following an intense training plan for crew, snuggling with my doggo, and watching the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with my mom. I want to get into a study/exercise routine, but for now I’m just playing things by ear and enjoying all this time I have to breathe.
