Spring Broke

Although I wholeheartedly meant to write a blog post last week, the Spring Break mentality really got to me this time around. I had an incredible week. I had fun, I got more sleep than I had in weeks (though I still didn’t make the 8 hours/night average), I spent some quality time with my sister, watched loads of Gilmore Girls episodes, and even got some homework done.

I flew to Florida early Saturday morning. Despite previous unsuccessful attempts I was able to pack everything on a carry on (this is big for me, I am usually the poster child for overpacking). There was some kind of storm around Florida, so I arrived at Fort Myers about two hours late. We drove to Orlando straight from the airport—although it probably would have been smarter to fly straight to Orlando, we did not yet know we would be going there back when I bought my ticket.

That night we met up with some of my sister and her boyfriend’s friends. We had burgers for dinner then went to the Universal CityWalk. It had never occurred to me that people could go to Disney (or Universal) without actually going in the parks. It is a beautiful place; we all took turns posing in front of the Universal planet sign and we all walked around for about an hour.

The next day my sister, her boyfriend, and I decided to buy tickets for two parks: Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. If you have been to Universal before you might know why we decided this: Harry Potter. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was cleverly divided into two sections: Diagon Alley is in Universal Studios and Hogsmead in Islands of Adventure. You don’t have to go to both parks, but it was so worth paying to get the full experience. We went back and forth between the parks all day. We mostly ate and walked all day, but then devoted the last hour and a half or so before the parks closed to going on rides that usually have a four-hour line. It was great in the sense that lines were way shorter, but it also meant we had to run from ride to ride to make as many as possible before they closed. My feet were killing me by the end of the day. I logged in almost 23,000 steps that day. My feet were sore for most of the following week.

We headed back to Naples on Monday afternoon. The following four days consisted of homework, sleep, and Gilmore Girl marathons. Because we were so lazy during those days we felt the need to cram as much as possible into my last day in Florida. Saturday was incredibly fun. We first went to a Farmer’s Market my sister had gone to before and loved. After that we stopped by a place called The Bowl. They sell these incredibly tasty acai blends with nutritious toppings. It’s like healthy ice cream, or like ice creamy smoothies.

Later that day we went to the beach. I am not a huge fan of the beach, but I had a lot of fun. We chilled and waited for the sunset. I even went in the water! It was beautiful.

Like is tradition for me, I didn’t get any sleep the night before my flight. I arrived at the airport before the TSA line was even opened, waited for two hours for my flight to board, and then took two flights back to Boston. Classes were difficult the next day because I was not in the right mindset for them, but things are back on track now!

I know I rushed everything a bit, but I didn’t want this to drag to long. Come back next Tuesday for updates on my study abroad plans. To those of you who recently received an acceptance letter: congrats! Hope to see you around campus on your Sophomore year (…remember I am studying abroad). Until next time!
