Traveling to and from Wellesley

The Boston Marathon was last Monday! I wish I could add to what my fellow writers have told you about what most Wellesley students would agree is the Best Day of the Year, but I actually took advantage of having no school on Monday and traveled down to NYC! I was visiting one of my high school best friends, who is currently a sophomore at Barnard College. I had been looking forward to traveling in the US to visit my friends, but until this semester I had yet to do so. Now that I have done it, I definitely recommend it! You don’t want to miss fun and important things at your own school, but sometimes it is worth it! I had an amazing weekend, and now Marathon Monday 2018 will be worth all the more.

I left for NYC early on Friday afternoon. I bought a ticket for an express bus that was supposed to be 4 hours and 20 minutes long, but I should have known it would take a lot longer than that on Friday afternoon. For those of you considering traveling to NYC, definitely keep that in mind. I would not have/could not have traveled at other times, so I did not mind it too much, but I also was not mentally or physically prepared to spend 7 hours on a bus. I got pretty hungry near the end. The ride back to Boston was also a little long, but not significantly so. We made it in about 5 hours.

Regarding travel from Wellesley to Boston and vice versa, you will be happy to hear it is really convenient. If planned right, you can get from the Logan Airport or South Station to Wellesley with a little over five bucks. From the airport you would take the silver line to South Station, then the red line to either Kendall/MIT or Harvard Square depending on the date. From there you just have to wait for the Wellesley shuttle to pick you up! It is really convenient, but it is not always the best option. If you are traveling with more than a couple carry-ons, it can get slightly difficult to lug your baggage around. In that case, I definitely recommend looking into getting a ride from a Wellesley student. Many people give rides for a lot cheaper than a taxi would cost, and you usually find plenty of people to share it with. If that is not possible, my next option would be Uber or a similar service. I have never had any problems with Uber, but I also have not used their service that often. Still, an option worth considering. Riding a taxi cab would be my last option, but sometimes the other options are not even options. When riding a taxi cab there are a couple things to keep in mind: sharing the ride brings down the cost significantly and agreeing on a price before the ride works to your advantage. The first is pretty self explanatory, but the second I am still figuring out. When I call for a cab to pick me up at Wellesley and take me to Logan, they don’t even start the timer. Generally, it ends up being about $65 dollars plus tax. When taking a cab from the airport, agreeing on a trip rate can make the trip quicker and cheaper. I once paid over $80 for a ride from Logan to Wellesley. That is way too much! Don’t be afraid to agree on a rate before the trip begins.

I don’t want to go too into detail about my trip to NYC, but here are a few pictures! Until next time ~
