Happy Thursday, dear readers! Today is going to be a great day; I don’t know how your morning went, but mine started with chocolate chip pancakes and bacon at Tower, which is always a great omen!
We’re closely approaching the end of the semester here at Wellesley; we had our final HOCO on Tuesday, tomorrow is the last day of classes, and many people have already started packing and moving out! I don’t leave for another week, so I’ve been putting my packing off- although I do have a to-do list, because I like to pretend that I’m organized when I’m procrastinating- but two of my blockmates are headed out this Sunday. It’ll be weird to suddenly go from having a constant group of five to a trio, although I guess it’ll be good practice for the spring semester when it’ll just be me and Anastasija! We’re still holding out hope for a couple of randomly assigned blockmates, but I’ve decided it won’t really be that bad if things end up being just the two of us; I have a lot of other friends in Pom and living other places on campus who will be coming back for the spring semester, and I think it would be a great opportunity to hang out with them a lot more!
Saturday is a double birthday celebration for me; it’ll be both my mom’s birthday and my blockmate Katie’s birthday! Anastasija and I ordered her a cake from Claflin, the bakery on campus, and we’re planning to pick it up and celebrate on Friday night. I’m not sure how I plan to help celebrate my mom’s birthday yet; I’ll definitely facetime her on Saturday, and maybe I’ll make her a cake when I get home!
Saturday is also the holiday party for the Guild of Carillonneurs! We’re going to play games and decorate cookies together over Zoom, which I’m very excited for. Our Holiday Open Tower on Sunday was a huge success- you can watch it at this link if you’re interested (https://youtu.be/w6d9Zsuf-rc) – and I’m really looking forward to starting some new pieces next semester. I’ve already started working on a couple of new folk tunes!
My classes have been going really well as of late, and I’m feeling very prepared headed into finals week. I can really see my improvement in both subjects from the beginning of the course to now and I feel confident in my ability to use the skills I’ve developed to completely crush my exams! I take my math exam tomorrow morning, and in the afternoon the prompt for my poli sci essay will be released; next week will be filled with essay writing and packing as I prepare to submit my paper Thursday night and leave campus for the semester on Friday morning. Next Thursday will also be my big “First Semester Reflection” post; I’ll have to find some spare time over the next week to actually do that reflecting, because as of right now it doesn’t really feel like I’m close to the end of anything. I think that might be because I know I’ll be back here next semester, so I don’t feel like I need as much closure as my friends spending the spring elsewhere. Either way, a significant chapter of my life is ending, and I’m very grateful to have an outlet for reflecting on that in this blog; it forces me to think about my life here rather than just live it, and I think that’s been very healthy for me. I hope you all have enjoyed it as much as I have, and you continue to feel the same way as we go forth on our journey together into the second semester!
Sending you joy,
A
