Howdy, blog, and happy Thursday!
Spring break is in full swing here at Wellesley, and I could not be happier about how things are going so far. Even the fire alarm testing in my dorm every morning starting at nine am couldn’t kill my good mood. In celebration of the total awesomeness that has been this week, I’ll be giving you a day-by-day breakdown of this week for my post today.
Sunday:
If you remember my picnic planning from my last two posts, I’m sure you’ll be happy to here that Sunday was the day it all finally came to fruition; Anastasija and I headed out to the quad at noon for bread, cheese, cheesecake, and Slim Jims. We played the Ratatouille soundtrack while we ate to give us a ~sophisticated ambience~ and yes, it was everything we had dreamed it would be.
After the picnic, we made plans to visit our old blockmate, Katie, in the Ville, and we got to hang out her dog Ella! We sat out on my quilt across the street from the library and talked about our classes from this term and what we were expecting from the rest of the year. It was really nice to be able to just relax and decompress at the end of what was definitely the most difficult term at Wellesley so far.
Sunday was also Sunday Sundae in the dining halls to celebrate the end of finals, which was a much needed treat. Nothing beats a good hot fudge sundae at the end of a rough exam week!
Monday:
On Monday, Anastasija and I went to the Ville to buy leftover Easter candy, and while I was absolutely devastated at the lack of Reese’s Eggs, my spirits were lifted by a chocolate bunny and a bag of Cheetos; I also spent a very significant amount of time napping and just lying around in the Snuggle Cave, which was really, really nice.
Tuesday:
Anastasija and I went to the Walensi and SBOG run Disco Roller Rink on the tennis courts behind Billings on Tuesday, which was both very fun but also stressful and a tiny bit painful. Iowa has not quite aged past the early ‘90s yet, so I spent a very significant amount of my childhood at the local roller rink- think does not mean that I am a skilled skater, by any means. One of my clearest and most embarrassing childhood memories is of clinging to my best friend’s mom’s hand in a complete panic while “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz played in the background as we went around and around the rink during a Girl Scout bonding night, and my skills have unfortunately not improved since then, despite the many birthday parties, school field trips, and club outings that followed. Anastasija had never been roller skating before, but she of course took to it like a fish to water, and I bought her an ice cream in the Ville afterwards as thanks for putting up with all of my clinging and flailing. I guess roller skating is just something I wasn’t meant to master.
I spent Tuesday evening on my laptop reading Heartstopper, a webcomic about two rugby players at an all-boys school who fall in love that my TikTok wouldn’t stop putting on my FYP; for good reason, I’ve learned. It’s seriously, seriously adorable, and I highly recommend. Seriously.
Wednesday:
Yesterday I woke up earlier than I had since finals period started to head to the Office of Student Involvement and grab a bucket of ducks to decorate dorms with for Duck Day, which is apparently an annual campus holiday that no one knows the purpose or origins of where the campus is just out of nowhere covered in duck decorations and little hidden ducks full of candy. After duck distribution was completed, I had an interview for a student leader position for next year that I might be letting you know more about if things work out (fingers crossed!) later on. Unfortunately, fire alarm testing started right at the end of my interview, spoiling my plans to go back to sleep. Anastasija and I went to get ice cream in the Ville again after lunch, and I ended up being so tired from my early morning wakeup that I passed out and slept through dinner, and then Anastasija and I spent the rest of the evening messing with Pic Crews and eating leftover cheesecake in her room.
Thursday:
Today I slept in again, got COVID-tested for the second time this week, had some awesome breadsticks at Tower for lunch, and I’m currently sitting in a Wellesley for Boston Children’s Hospital goodie bag making meeting, supervising as a Community Event Ambassador. Mostly my hob just entails keeping an eye peeled for any COVID guideline violations while I sit in the corner and do homework, which is a pretty sweet gig if you ask me. After this, Anastasija and I might head to a bakery our CD, Paula, told us about in the Ville, or we’ll just head straight to Bates for chicken tenders and quesadillas. Tonight is also Pomcho night at Late Night, which I’m told is a super awesome tradition that normally occurs on Saturdays in the Pom dining hall.
With only a couple days left in break, I’m starting to prepare for the new term to start; Anastasija and I compared schedules today to make sure we know when we’re both available to eat meals together, and I submitted my time preference form for term 4 carillon lessons this afternoon; break time is really flying by, and I’m hoping that by the end of it I’ll be feeling revved up and ready for the next seven weeks. It’s crazy to think that by the end of May, I’ll be on my way back to Iowa for the summer! I’m going to try my best to make the most of the time I have left in my freshman year, “unprecedented” or no.
Sending you joy,
R
