The Penultimate Post

Hello blog, and happy Monday!

This is my second to last post of the year, which seems very quick and kind of crazy. I have one Saturday left on the Wellesley campus before I head back home to Iowa, and I have a feeling it’ll past much faster and much slower than I would like it to.

Before I get too far ahead of myself talking about what’s to come, though, there are many exciting things to talk about from last week!

First of all, on Wednesday a bunch of my flowers bloomed in lab! My sunflower stems got too long to support the flowers so I had to cut them and bring them back to my dorm to stick in a vase; my horticulture professor told us that if we kept the stems planted it’s possible that new flowers will grow so I left them in the greenhouse. My other flowers are still in the greenhouse, and since we don’t have lab this week I’ll be going in tomorrow morning to check on them after my friend Abby’s research presentation tomorrow (more on that later).

A cosmo!

A cornflower!

On Thursday night my friend Abby was in a production of Grease with the Babson Players, a tri-college collaboration group between Babson, Olin, and Wellesley, the three colleges in the town of Wellesley. She played Patty Simcox, who is technically the villain in the stage production of Grease; Sandy’s bad girl transformation isn’t complete until she punches Patty in the face. Abby was incredible, the music was great, and “Beauty School Dropout”- my favorite number in the show- was beautiful and hilarious. Our res staff went together to see it- Abby is the RA on the first floor of Bates- and my best friend Anastasija and a couple of our other friends came with us, so the whole shuttle to and from Babson was just full of friends, which made for a great time.

My weekend was pretty uneventful; I spilled a Glade scent thing in my room, so I spent most of the weekend with a sore throat and a stuffy nose that I was really worried might be COVID but ended up being a bit of an allergic reaction. I have since cleaned up the spill and today I went to the grocery store for some off-brand Claritin, so hopefully my sinuses will clear up soon.

Tomorrow classes are canceled for Ruhlman, a research conference where students present on projects they’ve worked on throughout the year. Most of the participants are thesising seniors, and my friend Abby is presenting early in the morning on Ancient Roman Law, so I’ll be waking up bright and early to catch her presentation!

Next week will probably be a long sappy post about everything I’ve learned and experienced this year, so in anticipation of all of that reading I’ll cut this post short and leave you with this picture I took of Lake Waban on Friday afternoon.

Sending you joy,

Andrew

P.S. One of my friends brought us flower crowns from the astronomy department; the header image is my friend Emma and I wearing ours!
