Happy Thursday!
Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend! I’m a bit behind on posts, so you’ll be hearing about the second part of my 4th of July next weekend (stay tuned – the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and Boston Harbor Islands were definitely sights to see!).
Last week, I wrote about what I’m doing at my internship and the basics about the Lumpkin Summer Institute. I thought today’s post should be focused on the fun – there always is so much to do in Boston (summer is no exception!), and today I’d like to highlight a few fun events I’ve attended this month.
First up: the Cambridge All City Dance Party!
Picture this: Northeastern University, 8pm. Friday night, after a long week of work. All my roommate and I wanted to do was lie on our beds and watch Brooklyn99. Instead, after utilizing every ounce of motivation we had in us, we decided to hop on the 1 bus and go to the Cambridge City Dance Party! As soon as we got there, we instantly felt that we made the right choice. Cambridge City Hall was the location of the Cambridge City Dance Party, an event that closes the roads and brings all ages together for a night of music and dance! We saw families with young children, senior citizens, and of course many college kids. It was jam packed! Eventually, we found ourselves in the middle of the dance party, directly opposite the City Hall, and we danced the night away – everything from old classics (September, Whitney Houston), to modern bops (Dynamite, Old Town Road 🤠)
It was a wonderful time, and I feel lucky to live so close to wonderful city with so many (great) free events! I was also pleasantly reminded of how many college students are in the area for school/summer.
This past weekend was the 4th of July! Since it was my first summer in Boston, I (of course) had to see the fireworks over the Charles River Esplanade!
A Wellesley friend is living at an MIT fraternity this summer, so I decided to head over from Northeastern to MIT to watch the fireworks with her. The house hosted a BBQ on the patio, and it truly felt like summer. The walk over was also gorgeous, as I always love passing over the Harvard Bridge from Boston to Cambridge. Some pictures are below!
We then watched the fireworks from Memorial Drive, Cambridge! Pro tip: if you want to see fireworks in Boston on the 4th, I’ve had multiple people tell me that the Cambridge side is usually less crowded than the Boston side!
The fireworks were definitely spectacular and definitely put on a show, but getting back to Northeastern after was quite the ordeal (swarms of crowds everywhere, and the main bridge was closed!). Needless to say, it was a wonderful day.
And, that’s all for today, folks! I’ll leave you with this lovely gelato I devoured last week in Back Bay – it consisted of three delicious flavors: hazelnut, caramel, and dulce de leche!
Happy (almost) Friday,
Shreya
