Break and Manchester-by-the-Sea

Hello hello!

Hope everyone had an enjoyable break. I was back in California all last week, and it was a great change. I rested, hiked, ate, slept, read…basically everything one should do when back home. I’m ready to finish the semester – only two more weeks until the last day of classes!

On the Saturday before break, my friends and I decided to take a road trip to the Massachusetts coast, to the town of Manchester-by-the-Sea! It was about an hour drive away from campus. As someone who grew up going to San Diego beaches every weekend, I wanted to experience an east coast beach. I was very familiar with the Pacific, and on Saturday, I had the opportunity to (finally) experience the Atlantic Ocean. And, for those of you wondering if it was too cold, well… it was a bit chilly, but I think there is something so nostalgic and wonderful about an overcast and empty beach with your good friends. Regardless, it wasn’t too cold (45 degrees was the high), and we were able to experience the town like the locals!

Much to our surprise and delight, the beach we went to, Singing Beach, is a dog beach during the fall and winter months! After walking along the coast and appreciating the sounds of the waves, we had lunch at a cute cafe and headed back.

As you can see, my dream of stepping foot on an east coast beach finally came true. I have to say, it was the perfect day trip before break.

Until next week,

Shreya
