Happy [belated] Diwali!

Hello hello!

Yesterday night was Wellesley College Darshana’s celebration of Diwali! Diwali or Dipavali is the Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere. Even though Diwali was technically last week, it was still great to celebrate with friends!

Here’s a little about what went down:

First, there was a puja.

Then, there was a full Indian meal (which was, to say the least, ah-mazing) Unfortunately, I didn’t snag a picture of the food, but I can tell you, it was definitely so nice to indulge in some paneer and gobi manchurian (the history of which is fascinating, by the way).

Lastly, there were sparklers! The perfect way to top off the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, all of what Diwali represents.

My friend and I ended the night by drawing henna, or mehndi designs, on each other’s hands! We are still amateurs, but I’m sure with some practice, we’ll be professionals.

Other than that, this week has been a flurry of exams and papers. I’ve been spending mornings at El Table, doing my Spanish readings over a steaming mug of chai latte. What a perfect oasis in the midst of this crazy time.

Here’s to more moments like that,

Shreya
