Hidden Gems at Wellesley: Cooking Nights!

Hello hello!

I don’t normally post on the weekends, but today I wanted to talk about one of Wellesley’s most underrated features (in my opinion): cooking nights! I attended my first ever cooking night last semester, and ever since then, I’ve kept my eye out for more. I remember the first time I showed up so nervous, because I didn’t know anyone. But it was for nothing: I met some great people, ate some delicious food, and felt so happy afterwards.

Last week, I attended Spanish cooking night, held in collaboration with the Spanish department. I’ve taken three spanish classes so far in my Wellesley career, and all of the professors and language assistants have been phenomenal. From my experience, every language department is tight knit and amazing at Wellesley. During the cooking night, we learned how to make salmorejo (a type of chill tomato soup) and tortilla de patata española (a spanish omelette)! There were about nine of us and we divided  and conquered the task! Pictures are below. After we finished cooking, we ate the dinner while sitting on a small dining table overlooking Lake Waban. What a great way to end the week!

Yesterday, I attended Italian cooking night, where we made carbonara (a vegetarian version too!), bruschetta (an Italian classic), and tiramisu (it was divine!). The best parts from last night were the small moments: navigating the crowded kitchen (in which we all truly felt like a community together), meeting new people from campus, and speaking with the language assistants! I was part of the group that made the tiramisu, and it turned out so, so good. After, we all gathered at the same dining room table and enjoyed a traditional Italian dinner. Warning: mouthwatering pictures of Italian food are to follow.

Anyway, that’s my update for this week. Next week is the last week of sophomore classes for me. It really hasn’t hit me yet that this year is coming to an end, which means that my time at Wellesley is half over.

To the end of the year,

Shreya
