Warmer Days and This Past Weekend

This past week was filled with warm, Spring-is-here weather! I’m currently writing this on a cloudy Friday morning from the Political Science department with a cup of tea beside me. It’s been humid these past few days, which is quite on brand for the east coast.

Currently, we’re approaching the end of week 6, which means that finals are next week! After finals, we have a week break, and then we’re onto the final term of the year, term 4! Term 4 will be my final 7 weeks at Wellesley ever, but we’re not going to go there in today’s post. I’m not feeling ready to face that just yet.

I’ve enjoyed my Meaning of Life philosophy seminar immensely this term. It fits the criteria for a perfect Wellesley class: good readings, engaging discussions, friendly (and inspiring) classmates, and a wonderful professor to top it all off. Philosophy is a subject I’ve often struggled with, but this term, I’ve been able to remind myself that I can tackle it! I also love how this class has a reflective component to it as well – so while we’re reading all these philosophical texts on what constitutes a meaningful life, we’re encouraged to relate it back to our own lives and think about it through the lens of our personal experiences. My classmates have shared hilarious, inspiring, head scratching stories from their own lives, which honestly makes a class that much more special. Even though we’re in a virtual class on Zoom, I don’t think that has detracted from our discussions at all.

Aside from class and with the warmer weather, I’ve found myself enjoying the outdoors and our beautiful campus even more. I went on a weekly walk with Amelia on Friday, and the lake was (I kid you not) sparkling. It was absolutely breathtaking. It’s probably because I live in Lake House, but this term, I’ve been spending a lot more time by the lake. It’s something I’m going to miss so much post Wellesley.

The KSC (our sports center) also has Recreation Saturdays, and last weekend, I went a bit crazy: ping pong in the morning, tennis in the afternoon. It felt good to be active and moving my body! The endorphins were pumping. I ended up crashing on Saturday, and the next day, on Sunday, I woke up early and decided to do my laundry (including my sheets). That gave me some time to kill, so I took a solo walk to the benches near Lake Waban (my favorite spot on campus). While walking back, I grabbed bagels for breakfast at Tower, and honestly, it was one of the best Sunday mornings I’ve had in awhile. Katie and I went to the academic quad in the afternoon to bask in the sun and pretend to do work (well, I think Katie actually did her readings, while I did not haha). Then, I ended up meeting up with Alia to talk about Attack on Titan (I’m watching it with blockmates (Katie and Meg) and we’re almost done with season 2…SO much is happening). I grabbed a quick dinner at Lulu and took a walk Sunday evening with Sophia! Exciting news: we both have obtained jump ropes and after our walk, we practiced jump roping for a solid 20 minutes or so. It was great fun, but also tiring. We’re trying to work up our endurance!

Near the benches of Lake Waban with Amelia!

“Working” on a sunny Sunday!

The Jump Ropers!

All in all, Wells recently has been a good balance of work and play. I’m hoping to keep that balance as we approach the final week of term 3, and well into term 4.

That’s all for today,

Shreya

P.S.: ORSL (Office of Religious and Spiritual Life) is hosting an event called 40 Days of Gratitude & Kindness. For the first day, they gave every student on campus a rose!

P.P.S: To all of the prospective students reading this, welcome class of 2025! We are sooo excited to meet you! Here is a link to a previous blog post for things to get excited about at Wellesley (part 1 and part 2)!
