Weekend Updates

Hello hello!

This past weekend was crazy busy: a NYC trip, MarMon (Boston marathon Monday!), warm weather, and much more.

Campus is bursting with Spring colors right now – flowers and trees are blooming everywhere! My particular favorite is the tree outside Caz and Pom, in the Quad. It’s quite a popular tree (there have been many instagram posts), and I can see why! It’s such a nice reminder that Spring is finally here.

Look at all those flowers!

The weather outside has been getting warmer, too! My friend and I have started a weekly tradition of playing tennis at the courts and going for runs to the town of Wellesley, known affectionately to students as “the ville”. We went on a sunset run yesterday, inspired by the marathoners we had seen this weekend! Marmon was exciting: watching and cheering on the runners is always a good time! I also loved looking at all the signs Wellesley students made for the scream tunnel. The weather outside on Monday was lovely, so after cheering for the runners, I sat by the lake and continued reading A Song of Ice and Fire.

The perfect reading spot

As I mentioned last week, my art history class went on a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC this weekend. Fully paid for by the art department at Wellesley, the trip was a whirlwind of amazing modern art. I finally stood in front a giant Jackson Pollock painting (mission: accomplished!), and saw many incredible works of art. My favorite part of the trip was walking through a museum with my incredible art history professor, who provided insight and commentary on the paintings in the gallery. We had a group of about 15 students from our class on the trip, and she led us on a tour of the gallery and facilitated discussions about the works of art we saw. I’ll remember the trip for the rest of my life. Again, one of the things that makes Wellesley so special are the amazing professors.

Not a Pollock painting, but one of my favorites at the exhibition!

Outside the Met!

The right way to do NYC…with pizza!

I haven’t talked about this much (maybe I will in a future post), but I’m currently working on a speech analysis system MIT (a fancy way of saying I’m conducting linguistics research) through the UROP program. We had a really exciting weekend, because we successfully submitted a research paper! I’ll keep  you all updated…this is the first academic paper I’ve ever authored, and I’m over the moon.

Lastly, tonight, I’m on an internship prep panel hosted by Career Education, along with four other students! We all had a wide variety of diverse summer internship experiences during the summer of 2018 (I was working for Girl Scouts San Diego), and we’ll be sharing our tips and suggestions about the process-everything from how we found our summer internship to how we navigated challenging situations. I’m looking forward to it!

Of course, on top of all of this – the academic work continues! It’s absolutely mind blowing to me that the semester is over in four weeks…it’s coming up so quickly!

Have a great rest of the week,

Shreya
