What Wellesley Has Taught Me

First of all… CONGRATULATIONS to all the fabulous humans who received their EDII acceptances last night. I, and all of my classmates, can’t wait to have you join us on campus in the fall!

While I said that I was going to vlog this week, I couldn’t bring myself to vlog out and about (I got super embarrassed every time I tried to film myself in front of other people) and watching me talk and not do anything isn’t that exciting either. Thus, I have another written post today. I thought that I would go through some of the things that I have learned at Wellesley in the past 1.5 years.*

I. Procrastination Still Doesn’t Work — In high school, procrastination was the name of my game. I did the bare minimum until the day before (even the day of) something was due. I genuinely believed that my essays were diamonds made under pressure. That theory worked occasionally. Now that I am at Wellesley the theory does not hold true, being ahead of schedule always leads to better outcomes as much as it easy to put something off until the next day or week. Image result for procrastinate gif

II. Wellesley is Not Like Other Colleges — Wellesley is not like the colleges 95% of my high school friends go to. There isn’t one way to be cool, there aren’t raging parties on campus seven days a week, and we aren’t co-ed. At first, there was major FOMO. Why don’t I get to go to huge football games every week? They get a sylly week and we just jump into classes? But in all honesty, I am better for it. I came to Wellesley because it isn’t like everywhere else.  The people here, students and faculty alike, are so passionate and driven that it drives me to do better and be better and I like to be in bed by 10:30 so that whole partying thing doesn’t really fit to begin with.

III. It’s Okay Not to Be The Best in Everything — I came into college thinking the only way I would get through Wellesley was if I did everything perfectly and was the best in all things. I soon learned that I am not the best in everything, probably not even second best, but there are people around me who are great at the things that I am not. Those are the people who can help me grow. If I was great at everything and knew everything there would be no reason for me to be here. College is a time for learning and exploring.

IV. You Will Find Your People — Everything people say about meeting “your person” in college is true. Sometimes you’ll even find more than just one of those people. It’s an incredible feeling to be surrounded by people who want the best for you, help you succeed and will buy you food when you are sad. College is never lonely, there are always people around. Don’t be afraid to talk to new people, even if they intimidate you– I did and ended up meeting my best friend. Image result for you're my person gif
