Welp, I’m on my last few classes before Thanksgiving break. I’m really blessed in that I’ll be going all the way home for the holiday. I’ve become really well-acquainted with airports in the past three semesters.
Many of my friends are staying though. There are only a few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so staying certainly isn’t the end of the world. I’ve heard a variety of Turkey Day plans. Sometimes, alums invite students to their houses, especially if they share a hometown. And when I say alums, I include the really young alums, having their first grown-up celebrations in their Boston or New York apartments. Student organizations are really good about having events for their members too, both official and casual.
So even though I do feel bad for my friends who are giving me the puppy dog eyes (“You’re leeeeeeaving me!”) when I tell them that I’ll be catching a flight Wednesday morning, I believe that we will all find a way to enjoy the holiday. Even if the holiday that you most enjoy is Black Friday, which I hear is especially fun on Newbury Street. Newbury Street is a street in Boston lined with upscale stores, famous restaurants, salons, and other cool stuff. A lot of the fare is above a college kid’s pay grade, but it’s so much fun to grab something tasty to drink (lemonade in the summer, cocoa in the winter perhaps?) and window shop with friends.

If you live far away from New England and know that you won’t be coming home often, don’t despair. There are many students like you, who tend to stick together and not only get through the break but have fun doing so.
