Tooting the horn

In just one semester, Wellesley College has given me a great deal of experiences and knowledge. During winter break, I’ve had a chance to give back to Wellesley College by talking about my experiences to prospies in Little Rock, Arkansas, where I’m from.

Now one thing I’ve discovered about being on panels – it’s hard not to talk a lot! Especially if you have strong feelings about something, and my feelings about my school are definitely strong, even when they aren’t definable. So if you go to a local Wellesley panel and the speakers are sort of verbose, cut  them some slack.

When I think about what I said to the young women who Wellesley identified as great prospective students, this is basically it – without all the hemming and hawing and extra words.

1.    Notice the alums In Little Rock, the Wellesley alums, in addition  to being accomplished and interesting, are sooo gung-ho about their alma mater. As a prospie, I really wanted to find what made them feel that way, and I think I have.

2.    Wellesley=work I’m sure you’ve heard about the amazing resources and unique opportunities that Wellesley and her huge endowment have to offer. They are real, but they don’t come on a silver platter. You have to show the powers that be that you’re ready for what they have to give.

3.    Listen to your gut I’m sure you’re carefully weighing the pros and cons of the schools on your special list. If you’re financially able, please visit the top two (or few). Being on the campus will tell you where you want to be.
