This week’s weather has been SO nice. The sun’s been out, temperature has been in the 70-80s, and people are actually smiling!
I want to write about last Saturday. My Saturday started off in Clapp Library. I went to one of the library’s private study rooms and attended a Zoom meeting for a mentorship program that I’m participating in. After my Zoom meeting, I left campus and walked to a park in town. It was super sunny and I sat and read for a bit.
Then, I walked back to campus and my dorm. My friend invited me and some others to go to Boston for her birthday dinner. So that evening, we took the Wellesley shuttle or locomotion bus, nicknamed “the loco”, to Boston.
We ate dinner at a Halal restaurant and it was really good. Then we walked around a bit and went to a Trader Joe’s to buy snacks. Fun fact, it’s apparently the world’s smallest Trader Joes. We also went to the Prudential Center, a shopping mall. In general, I just love being in Boston at night.
We took the bus back to campus and then I met some other friends who are also Tibetan. They brought this Tibetan snack called laphing, a jelly-like food paired with spicy sauce. I hadn’t eaten it in ages and it was very tasty. We snacked on the laphing in my friend’s dorm common room and just talked and caught up. And that was my Saturday.
I’m looking forward to this weekend too. My cousin is visiting and staying with me, so I’m excited to see her. I also don’t have classes on Monday because it’s the Boston Marathon, called MarMon at Wellesley. The Boston Marathon passes by our campus, so Wellesley students line up and loudly cheer on marathon runners and just spend the day having fun and partying. In preparation for MarMon, a bunch of school events are being held this weekend.
I definitely disagree with the sentiment that “there’s no social life at Wellesley.” I think it’s rather that Wellesley students have more choice on how to spend their free time; there’s no pressure to always go socialize or go out to Boston, but it also doesn’t feel like you have to stay in your dorm all day because there’s no fun opportunities on campus. I think there’s a good balance. This is just my opinion from my time here so far!
Thanks for reading and I’ll include photos from Saturday.
