First Fall Break

Happy Fall Break! This past weekend was fall break, meaning an extra long weekend with no classes on Monday (Indigenous Peoples Day) and Tuesday.

My break started with a Saturday morning orientation for a cat shelter in town I’m volunteering at. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this yet in a blog post, but I have a pet cat back home who I miss a lot. It was fun to be around cats again and I’m very excited to be volunteering.

That evening, my friend and I went out to Boston to get dinner at an Asian restaurant on Newbury Street. I saw a lot of cool stores that made me want to shop to the point of credit card debt, but like the mature college student I am, I restrained myself. Then, we hung out at MIT’s campus with some other Wellesley friends and did our favorite activity of walking by the Charles River and laughing at the giant Citgo sign (if you know, you know)

Sunday was a calmer day: I’m taking a class on Greco-Roman archaeology and our homework assignment this weekend was to visit an exhibit at the Harvard Art Museum. I took the Wellesley shuttle to Harvard to get there and the museum is actually free for college students. I loved it and would recommend that literally everyone visit.

Monday was the coolest day though: I went with two friends to the town of Salem (Yes, THE Salem of the Salem witch trials) The journey required taking the exchange bus to Marlboro Market, walking for a whopping 40 minutes to North Station, and then riding the train for 30 minutes to Salem. I didn’t mind the walk though, it went through historic streets in downtown Boston and the Boston Common, a beautiful city park. Fall is in full swing here in Massachusetts, so my friends and I ooh-ed and ahh-ed at every tree turning orange and houses with early Halloween decorations, as if we’d never witnessed the month of October before in our lives.

We went to cute cafes and walked around Salem, which was fully decked out with Halloween decorations, witch-themed stores and merch, and people dressed in costumes. I imagine that the Salem annual tourism graph looks a little something like this:

Shoutout econ graph skills… my professor would be very proud of me

I spent Tuesday doing my first volunteer shift at the cat shelter and finishing up homework. I really enjoyed the long weekend and getting some time to explore more of the Boston area with friends and catching up on schoolwork. I’ll include some fun fall break photos and thanks for reading!

Literally the world’s cutest kitten at the rescue shelter (ignore the scared look on his face)
