A Rather Busy Week On Campus

Hello dear readers!

As the first week after Fall Break, this week has been relatively uneventful and studying-focused. I have a ton of things due this week, but I am also really looking forward to the end of the week because this weekend is the Family and Friends weekend. My family won’t be coming, but I am still excited because there are a lot of events planned on campus, and I will be working/helping around.

One exciting thing that happened to me this week (yesterday actually!) was that I had my first shift working at the Wellesley Children’s center. I filled in for another teaching assistant that couldn’t come, and I got to spend some time in the Orange room (the colors correspond to different age groups). I have a feeling that I will really like this job.

My classes are going great (and I’m saying that after the midterms, which means that I really mean it). My Physics class, PHYS 100, is definitely my favorite class right now. Our professor is really great, and the content is super interesting and mind-blowing. We are soon going to be done with the first part of the course, Special Relativity, and we will start with the Quantum Mechanics part of it. My Math class, MATH 116, is good as well, I just regret taking it at 8:30. Here’s a tip: 8:30 classes in college are different than 8:30 classes in high school, and unless you know you are a morning person, try to avoid them. I had been given this advice before registration happened, but I didn’t really believe it. And now I have to live with my decisions, hah.

As for my social life, I spend a lot of time with my friends this past week. We went to the party at the Acorns House on Saturday, we played a lot of board games (I am now a professional at explaining the rules of my favorite board game, Avalon), and we had lots of study sessions together. One thing that I really really enjoyed during this past week is the fact that I got to know even more of my neighbors and the people living around me. Stone-D right now feels like a real community to me. There’s a big difference in my perception of the place between now and the first time I went into the building, two months ago, when I was scared to enter the Common Room, which then felt scary and unwelcoming.

That’s it from me for this week. I will have more updates on the Family and Friends weekend next week! Stay safe!
