Boston and Birthday Parties

Hello dear readers!

I’m writing this on a Monday, in between classes on my roommate’s birthday. She turned 18 today, so last night with some friends we organized a surprise mini-midnight party for her. We went shopping in Target on Saturday and we got her a cake and birthday decorations (by the way, the theme for the party was dinosaurs, very fitting for adults like us). We actually managed to surprise her, so it was very cool to see her genuine reaction at midnight when all of our friends showed up at the door. Eating cake, singing the Happy birthday song, and taking pictures, while also trying to be quiet and mindful of the people sleeping in the other rooms, was challenging, but I would say that the party was a success after all.

MIT

Another cool thing that happened last week is that I went to MIT for an event organized by the Bulgarian club there. As far as I know, I am the only person coming from Bulgaria on campus (and there’s also my friend in Wellesley who I met here whose mom is Bulgarian, but who also doesn’t speak Bulgarian). So, I was very excited to meet more Bulgarians in the area, speak my native language, and eat some delicious food with them. There weren’t a lot of people there, but even the few present there made my day. I actually met a first-year student there who is on the same flight as me during the Christmas break.

My friend and I

I went to Boston and the event with my friend from Wellesley I mentioned above. We had a good time and the weather was perfect. After the event, we walked around Boston for a while. I really love Boston as a city. It is the perfect combination of modern buildings, cool parks, and the amazing sights of the river and the bay.

Boston

That’s it from me for the day. We are getting pretty close to Thanksgiving, which I am excited about as I have never celebrated it before. I will be staying on campus over the break, but I do have some exciting plans that I will share with you some other time. Stay safe!
