Hiiii: The Introduction

Hello dear readers!

My name is Vyara, and I will be one of the student bloggers this year! I use she/her pronouns, I’m class of 2026, and I’m an international student from Bulgaria (I feel like I have repeated the last sentence at least a couple of hundred times in the past month that I have been here, hah).

That’s me on Flower Sunday!

I’m a prospective Physics major (I’ve gotten a lot of I-am-so-sorry-for-you looks following this statement, but, please, don’t feel sorry for me, I WANT to study Physics), and I live in Stone-Davis (East Side = Beast Side!), which is cool because most of my classes are in the Science Center nearby.

Coming on campus was my first time in the US, so you will definitely be hearing more about my cultural shocks in the following months. Here are some random facts about me:

  1. I am obsessed with board and card games, and I play a lot of those with my friends around campus, so stay tuned to learn about all the cool games around here;
  2. I love reading, mostly fiction. My favorite authors are Jane Austen, Cassandra Clare, and Agatha Christie. My favorite book, though, is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett;
  3. I loooooove lemons. I have lemon socks; lemon earrings; lemon stickers…I am used to eating lemons or at least using them as a dressing for every meal, so I am sad that I can’t do that here;
  4. I love my plushies. And yes, I used some of the space of the singular big case I came to the US with to bring my favorite one. Now it sits majestically on my bed here (it’s not lonely though, my roomie’s plushies are keeping it company);
  5. I have absolutely no idea what orgs I want to join, so stay tuned on updates on that. The only things that I know I will be doing this semester for sure are this blog, my job at the children’s daycare center on campus, and the NGO back home that I have been working with for the past several years.

I am writing this on a Sunday night, kinda as a way to procrastinate my History readings. Next week promises to be very eventful for me: I’m going to New Hampshire with a friend for Fall Break, then I’m going to go thrift shopping, mostly for winter clothes (as one of the few people who have experienced real winters in my friend group), and I’m…gonna figure out at least one more fun thing to do! Sooo, stay tuned!
