My Winter Break

Hello everyone!

How has the Winter break been for you? I had a great time back home in Bulgaria with my family. I arrived the day before Christmas, so I didn’t have a lot of time to rest or fix my sleep schedule before all the crazy around the holidays started. Nevertheless, I was really excited to see my family and celebrate together (the food was also a big part of the reason behind my excitement, to be honest :)).

New Year’s Eve was also really fun for me – I was out at a bar with my family (I know, so cool), and we were dancing the whole night. I really hate the sound of fireworks, but I could appreciate how pretty they looked in the night sky. My brother was with us the whole time, and I think he had more energy than everyone else combined – even though it was 4 am, he was on the dance floor with everybody, jumping around.

Besides my family, I managed to meet up with a lot of friends who were also back home for the holidays. We were hanging out, driving around the country, ice skating, playing board games, and all the ‘cool’ things you would expect 20-year-olds would be doing.

A highlight of the break for me was the spontaneous trip that my family and I had to Serbia. I live around 3 hours away from the border, so we made it into a day trip. We walked around Zaječar for a few hours and bought some of their famous pljeskavica. Even my father, who is vegetarian, thought that it smelled amazing. We also had another shorter day trip to Klisurski Monastery that’s an hour away from my home. I really enjoyed the vibe of the place and the feelings of calmness around the place (even if my brother was making a lot of unnecessary noises, while he was walking around).

I am grateful to be back in Wellesley though – I have missed my friends, and I am honestly looking forward to my classes. I will tell you more about that next week. Stay safe everyone!
