Thanksgiving Break

Hello everyone!

This week is the first full week after the Thanksgiving break, and things are slowly going back to normal and heading toward the end of the semester. I love breaks, but I am super unproductive during them, which results in a very busy week afterward. It’s just that time of the semester when a lot of assignments are due and the final exams are fastly approaching.

My Thanksgiving break was rather relaxing. On Thanksgiving, I joined Mezcla’s Friendsgiving with my friends. In the evening we played some board games and enjoyed the empty halls. Friday was also rather relaxing: I read a lot and had time to talk to my friends and family back home. On Saturday I went to Boston alone to walk around. I walked around the Boston Common park, wandered around in the Cambridge Antique Market (where I bought some Christmas gifts for some friends), and shopped at Primark in Downtown Boston. I have traveled a lot alone in Europe, so I was excited to have the chance to be alone in Boston.

This and next week we are having a lot of events in the Physics department. Currently, they are trying to hire a new professor in the department. Each of the 6 finalists for the position gets to do a teaching demonstration, a presentation on their research, and an informal lunch with students in the department. I have been going to a lot of these, and I really think they are fun. The research presentations are very interesting (even if I didn’t understand everything the prospective professors were saying), and also I got to talk to a lot of other students from all classes in the department.

Also, happy December! I think a lot of people from warmer places have been really excited for December to come so that they can experience the snow that was promised to them for this time of the year in New England. However, the weather in Wellesley has been abnormally warm, so we saw snowflakes only once. I’m sure, however, that the snow will come soon.

That’s it from me for this week. Stay safe!
