1 Month Down!

Hello Blog,

In the words of Maisie Peters (a musical artist who just came to Boston on tour), “I wake up and it’s October.” Even though this is only my second blog, I’ve been back at Wellesley for a full month now! Let’s recap what has happened so far:

Classes are back in full swing! Something a bit new this year is that I’m taking a Calderwood Seminar in public writing. These classes are senior-level classes offered across many departments and even at multiple colleges, but mine is in the biochemistry department at Wellesley. We get to focus on how to communicate technical science to a general audience, which is super important for someone like me who wants to go into science and make science more accessible. Plus, it fits very well into the liberal arts focus of Wellesley. Our assignment this week is to co-write an op-ed on race and gender-based disparities in scientific research funding from federal sources.

For the fourth fall semester in a row, I am in the Chamber Music Society! This organization is my pride and joy (I’m one of the presidents!) and a huge part of my college experience. Finally, after 3 years, I’m playing in a string quartet. I managed to befriend a lot of pianists up until now, so I’ve been playing in chamber music groups with piano, but this year I’ve assembled a string quartet of my friends! We’re working on Borodin’s string quartet no. 2, which is just an incredible piece and very autumnal. Fun fact: Borodin was an organic chemist in addition to being an incredible composer (he’s just like me fr).

Recently, we had one of Wellesley’s oldest traditions, Flower Sunday. This is a tradition where first years are matched with underclassmen to help give first years a friend/friendly face in their dorms. I have two littles, one in the class of 2026 and one in the class of 2027 (both very musical and lovely), two grand-littles in the class of 2027, and 2 great-grand-littles in the class of 2028, which makes me a great-grand-big! I tried to draw out a family tree, but it got very complicated. I included a picture in my last post of my friends and I in the same place we took our Flower Sunday pictures together as first years. Time sure does fly! Another fun fact: my OG little, Erika, and I are going to see Sabrina Carpenter together this week! Talk about big-little bonding 🙂

Until next time,
