Adventures with Margaret Part 2

Welcome back!

This week, I’ll be sharing more of the things I did while my mom visited. Per my last blog, we went whale watching, and had just wrapped up our Saturday morning activities. After leaving the flea market we visited, we headed towards the Boston Public Library. To get there, we took the blue and green lines. My mom didn’t enjoy this because the subways were very full due to a Red Sox game, but I think this trip was an important part of the Boston experience.

At the library, we went into the grand staircase, then to the iconic courtyard. It was pretty busy, with many people studying and taking pictures. The Boston Public Library was the first large free municipal library in the United States and was founded in 1848. This was my first time visiting, and I didn’t realize it’s actually two buildings, the McKim building and Boylston St. building. I was able to get a library card, and I think it’s awesome that anyone with a Massachusetts address can access the library. I didn’t check anything out because I can’t find books in a library on a time limit, and we had to catch the train back to Wellesley.

After getting back, we went to sleep early because we knew we would have an early morning. At around 5:30 am, we woke up to catch the 6:04 train. One of my favorite parts of Boston is the esplanade on the Charles River so I wanted to show my mom. We got off the train at Boston Landing and wandered towards the water. I got in a medium distance run down towards Harvard, and my mom crossed the Bridge towards MIT.  The river always has lots of rowers in the morning, and my mom saw a bunny. When we wrapped our exercise, we got coffee at Flour Bakery, and I had a vegan chocolate cake that was delicious! We then headed back to Wellesley to gear up for the second part of the day.

Following our arrival back to Wellesley, we rested then grabbed a quick brunch at the Dining Hall in Lulu, our student center. My mom got an omelet that she enjoyed. Next, we were once again on the train. We headed towards Fenway Park to the Fenway Flea market. I bought a blue Hawaiian shirt and then went to an indoor food court. My mom and I both got chocolate peanut butter smoothies and watched the Olympics. Lots of swimming events were happening, and we also saw some skateboarding. After our smoothies, we went to the climbing gym. It was mostly bouldering, which is climbing without a rope, so my mom wasn’t super excited. She braved the walls and went to the top of several routes, which made me happy. We decided to celebrate the successful climbing and approaching end of my mom’s trip by going to Bartaco for dinner.

Bartaco was pretty busy because there was a Red Sox game around the same time, but I enjoyed my Shirley Temple and corn. We then headed back to Wellesley, and my mom flew back home the next morning. It was great to have her visit, and share some of my favorite places in Boston.

See you soon,

Elise
