Big News!

Hello Blog,

A lot has happened this past week. First, I turned in my thesis!! It is 123 pages long and finished! My actual oral exam/thesis defense is in a couple weeks to decide if I get honors in my major, but the thesis is officially turned in (early!). After the defense we also have time to make minor edits, so I’ll still get to fiddle with it a little more before it’s officially printed. Now I get to start writing the actual paper for publication! Next Wednesday is the Ruhlman Conference (an annual academic conference at Wellesley), where a lot of thesising seniors present their research. In a beautiful stroke of luck, my friends and I are in different presenting sessions (the conference runs all day), so I’ll be able to present and hear about the cool work they’ve been doing.

Speaking of my friends, in very exciting news, we all officially have post-grad plans! After we graduate I’ll be back in California starting my PhD in chemistry, my friend will be right in the heart of NYC (her dream city) getting her masters in decorative arts, and my other friend will be starting a job as a legal analyst in Washington, D. (also her dream city). We were feeling a low-key evening last friday (when my friend officially got her job offer), so to celebrate we cooked dinner in the kitchen on our floor, played Telestrations, and walked ~20 minutes to the new Van Leeuwen (ice cream shop) that opened near campus. We could have driven ~5 minutes because my friend has a car, but I love a brisk walk in the dark, and Wellesley is quite safe at night.

It was also admitted students day this past weekend, one of the most tiring days of the year, but also something I always look forward to. I led a tour that I am calling my “stair tour” in which I took visitors up 4 flights of stairs to my 5th floor room, 9 flights of stairs to the bell tower, and multiple other stairs throughout campus. This year we’re welcoming the Class of 2029, which is the green class that’s going to replace my year when we graduate. In that vein, I’ll also be working reunion this year, which will have all the people in my reunion cycle (because reunion is every 5 years, and I’m graduating this year). I’m looking forward to meeting other Wellesley alums that I’ll maybe see when I (hopefully) return in 5 years – my friends and I are already talking about requesting a triple as our housing assignment…
