City and Country

Hello Blog!

One of my favorite things about Wellesley is its location. It’s about 12 miles from Boston and it’s easy to get to either on the exchange bus from campus or the commuter rail in the town of Wellesley. Additionally, there are tons of hiking and nature trails connected to the college.

First, there is the lake path which loops around Wellesley’s lake, Lake Waban. It’s about three miles completely around and you can see tower and lake house, some of the dorms, from the other side of the lake. I often see deer, chipmunks, bunnies, and raccoons here. About a mile from Wellesley is Morses Pond. It’s a public beach and a great place to swim. Since Lake Waban doesn’t have a sand beach, Morses is my favorite place to swim. There are a couple miles of hiking trails also. Another nature area near Wellesley is Elm Bank. It’s a Massachusetts state park with a kayak boat ramp and soccer fields. There are also greenhouses and gardens run by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and several summer camps that operate there. One of the best things about the town of Wellesley is that it has a trail system that connects many of the places I’ve mentioned. There are 29 miles of interconnected trails, including one that connects to Babson and Olin Colleges. I often run or walk on these trails with my teammates and friends.

In contrast to all the nature near Wellesley, it’s easy to go to the city. I use the commuter rail and exchange bus from Wellesley. There are always events happening in Boston. Earlier this summer, I went to a cliff diving event that was happening into the Boston harbor, and there are tons of flea markets I am going to try to visit. During the school year, I go to Boston to visit museums like the Isabella Stewart Gardener and the MFA. The places I go most often in Boston are climbing gyms. I’m part of Wellesley’s rock climbing clubs, and there are gyms in Boston right off the commuter rail near Fenway Park and by the Harvard square Wellesley bus stop. It’s really nice to be near such a cool city!

That’s all for now,
