Hello beautiful people,
Here are a few ways Wellesley helped me to level up mentally, emotionally and spiritually!
1 – More comfortable with speaking up in class
Classes at Wellesley are discussion based, which encourages students to share their perspectives. I used to be hesitant about speaking up because I was constantly worried I would say the wrong thing or just make an unnecessary comment. At Wellesley, the small classroom setting, encouraging environment fostered by professors and peers, and the participation grade gave me a boost to shake off my fears and speak up!
2 – I found my style—my hairstyle and the colours that I wore changed
A month before Wellesley, I built my Pinterest mood board for what my college looks would be! I coordinated everything from earrings to my hair! Growing up, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce was my favourite celebrity, both on and off the track, making hair not just a fashion statement but a form of self-expression! She always makes a bold statement with her hair, showing the versatility of Black hair. So, when coming to college I knew there was no more playing safe…it was time to go BOLD!

3 – Giving myself a routine
I started romanticizing my life and created a structured routine to keep myself on track. Everyday I wake up and do my devotionals and speak affirmations to myself in the mirror. After classes, before lunch I would go to tupelo lane and just enjoy the view! I enjoyed going to the Leaky Beaker for some warm soup during my study break in the Science Center.

4 – Embracing my identity
I embraced my international identity—I attended high school in Wales, United Kingdom. My international background has afforded me the chance to share my Jamaican culture through food, music and even my day to day convos. Participating in culture shows through orgs like Wellesley for Caribbean Development and Ethos make me feel seen!
