This may come as a surprise but as someone from SoCal, I really appreciate the East Coast summer. Although it is not always crystal clear water with 5 foot waves, it is beautiful in a different way. I spent this past weekend in Cape Cod visiting my friend Julia for a weekend get away. I took the Cape Flyer, an MBTA train that was $25 for a one way ticket out of South Station at 5 PM on a Friday. It was surprising to see how many people were leaving for the Cape that evening.
On that train, I did a bit of research for my MIT Lab but mostly dissociated looking out the window. I took the Cape Flyer all the way to Hyannis, which is the last stop on that train. Julia, Cecilia, and Aubrey picked me up, and we were reunited. I haven’t seen Aubrey or Cecilia at all this summer so it was really wonderful to see them again. We then planned out our entire weekend.
Saturday morning we went to Beth’s, which is a small coffee shop, and got a croissant sandwich and an iced latte. We headed off to the beach where we tanned for 3 hours. We attempted to swim, but it was WAY too cold even in the middle of July. After our tanning session, we headed to the Chatham Bars Inn where we soaked up even more sun but in a nice outfit. I sat and sipped on a Shirley Temple, which was incredibly expensive but delicious. We were there for a grand total of 30 minutes but with complimentary parking it was worth it. We took some beautiful photos and then proceeded to drive back to Julia’s house to make tacos, guacamole, tzatziki, and cowboy caviar.

Chelsea and Cecilia ‘25 on our way out to the water!
Sunday was a bit of a more relaxing day. We spent the morning sardined on Julia’s pull out bed couch watching Normal People. We drove over an hour to Rhode Island to get coffee/matcha from the Nitro Bar and then dropped Cecilia off at the Providence train station so she could catch her train back to NY, while Julia drove me and Aubrey back to Boston. It was a jam packed weekend but was lots of fun. This coming weekend we are traveling to see Cecilia in NY so get ready for next week’s blog!
Safe travels,
Chelsea
