Hello Blog,
Well, it has finally come. My last blog. It has been an absolute joy to write weekly updates about my life for the past 3 (!!!) years. I’m honestly quite emotional about leaving Wellesley, and there’s no way to write that up in a (somewhat) digestible blog post. This was my dream school. I cried so hard when I got in that my mom went to hug me thinking I had been rejected before I pointed at the green confetti on the screen. Even though the past four years haven’t always been easy, I think coming to Wellesley is one of best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude – for the opportunity to go to college, and especially to a place like Wellesley. Here are some slightly disorganized thank yous as I try to put this feeling into words:
-
- To my family, especially my mom, for teaching me by example how to work hard and for always being “on my team”. Also to my brother, who managed to avoid his angsty teenage years (for now) and made staying close to home worth it.
- To my friends here, for dealing with my idiosyncrasies, for showing me how to be a better friend, and for being the funniest people I’ve ever met.
- To my research advisor, for introducing me to research with humor and kindness, for seeing potential in me from the beginning, and for making me want to be a scientist.
- To the music department (administrative staff, faculty, students, the physical space of Jewett, etc.) for becoming a departmental “home” for me on campus. The amount of music in my life right now is one of the things I’m going to miss most when I graduate.
- To the chemistry department, for making the most difficult courses I have ever attempted to take somehow still fun, and in that vein, for giving me friends forged in the crucible (haha) of seemingly impossible problem sets.
- To my cello teacher, for always meeting me where I was during any given week (even if that was being overwhelmed with midterms), for helping me put together two whole recitals, and for making it impossible to not be excited about music.
- To the Chamber Music Society, for giving me SO many friends and for being one of the most important and proudest parts of my Wellesley experience.
- To the Guild of Carillonneurs, for giving me the space to try something new, even when that something new is an instrument I am spectacularly mediocre at.
- To the Office of Admission, for employing me, for expanding my understanding of DEI and access to higher education, and for introducing me to some of the coolest and most accomplished people on campus.
- To Pom, for being the best dorm on campus.
- To Wellesley as a whole, for being full of some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met, and for making me want to be better because of it.
There is so much I’m going to miss about Wellesley and so much I’m excited for after Wellesley. I came here hoping that Wellesley would help me grow—both as a student and as a person—and I think that came true. Thank you for everything.
