Hello beautiful people,
My name is Rachel Blake! I am a rising sophomore from Kingston, Jamaica, majoring in economics and psychology. I am going to be blogging about my life at Wellesley this summer and thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself! I serve on the executive boards of several clubs, like Ethos for Black students, Slater International Organisation for international students, and Wellesley for Caribbean Development. I am also a first-year apprentice researcher, where I worked in Dr. Gleason’s Imaginary Laboratory focusing on child development. I will be continuing this research through the Sophomore Early Research Program.
During my first year at Wellesley, I was deeply involved in volunteer and civic engagement work through Career Education. I am passionate about community service and have been organising donation drives and giving back to marginalized communities since I was 13 years old. I ended my first year by volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity, a global movement working to build more prosperous and vibrant communities by ensuring everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home. I dedicated 8 hours into helping with the house project.

Giving back is a core value of mine, and Wellesley’s far reaching support has empowered me to live out my purpose: to serve, and not be served. Over the course of three months, I raised over 150 backpacks and school supplies for children in Albion, Jamaica, my hometown. This initiative was carried out in partnership with the Career Education Civic Engagement Department and Wellesley for Caribbean Development. I received so much support from my Wellesley sibs and the faculty here on campus. I look forward to sharing more once we execute the drive in August!
