It’s Officially SPRING!!!

Hello Blog,

SO much has happened in the past few weeks. It is suddenly spring on campus – all of the magnolia trees are blooming, I haven’t touched my winter jacket in weeks, and people are always lounging around outside (especially in the courtyards or dorms). This is one of my favorite times on campus, and normally it’s a pretty busy time, but as a senior my time at Wellesley is kind of winding down.

I’m taking 3 classes this semester (plus my thesis), and I only have a standard final for my chemistry class. My music class has a composition (but we’ve had 3 others throughout the semester), my music performance seminar’s final was my senior recital (more on that soon), and I am defending my thesis tomorrow, so if all goes well, then I’ll be done! That means I honestly have a lot more free time than I usually do to hang out with friends, so hang out with friends I must. Being a senior is awesome!

I had my senior recital this past weekend and it was truly one of my favorite Wellesley memories. Honestly, performing is very stressful, but I just felt so loved by all of the people who came to support me. I had people from every graduating class I interacted with at Wellesley including 2 people from the class of 2022 who were in my first chamber group ever at Wellesley and 2 of my friends who graduated last year and drove 4 hours to come see me. My advisor from my research lab came as well as underclassmen in my lab. Two of my friends from home came as did my bosses in the Office of Admission. Of course, my family and other friends came as well! It honestly felt like a wedding in the way so many people from my life were there. If I wasn’t so pumped up on adrenaline I would have cried a lot. I’m just so grateful to the music department at Wellesley for being a place that has really encouraged me to grow as a musician these past four years and for becoming an academic “home” on campus for me.

The cake the co-director of the chamber music society baked herself and surprised me with at my recital. She also rearranged her entire teaching schedule on saturday so she could come to my recital. I did cry at this :’) (and the cake was delicious!)

So many flowers! (this was only about half of them!)

Finally, I must mention the Boston Marathon (aka the best day of the year). I love MarMon and this year was perhaps the best one yet. The weather was beautiful and the energy on campus was so high. I think I am becoming very sentimental because it was so great that I cried because as a Massachusetts local, the Boston Marathon has always been huge (especially Boston Strong after the bombing in 2013), and I realized that this is my last MarMon in Boston for the near future because I’m moving to California. This year we also had a prime viewing spot when we needed a little break because my friend’s window directly overlooked the road. I will miss the Wellesley Scream Tunnel (what they call us because we cheer so loud for runners) greatly.

The chamber music society at MarMon. My friend made a sign for one of the families that she babysits for in the town of Wellesley, but Jenny is also the name of one of the co-directors of CMS, so we posed with the sign 🙂

Until next time,

Jade <3
