Moving and Grooving

Hello y’all!

I can’t believe summer is almost over, and that this is my second to last blog. Working as an Admission Summer Intern has gone by so fast. This weekend was busy, but I got a couple bucket list items crossed off. The big to-do of the weekend was moving, and I’m also trying to savor the last few summer weekends before my cross country season starts.

On Saturday, I visited Crystal Lake in Newton. I had seen the lake from the Green Line, and then it was recommended to me. I hopped on the Green Line at Riverside with, as always, a million people going to a Red Sox game. Luckily, I only had to ride a few stops and got off at Newton Highlands. It was supposed to be an 11 minute walk to the beach, but I wasn’t paying attention and managed to walk around about 30% of the lake before I realized I’d missed the turn. Regardless of my lack of attention to the GPS, I got to see a lot of beautiful gardens and old houses on the way. After I arrived at the beach, I got a day pass and headed to the shore.  There was a grass lawn and sand beach, so I got set up on the grass. I think the best part of Crystal Lake was the large H shaped dock. I got to jump off the dock and dive, which was great. The water was also pretty clear, and there was some sort of seaweed in the water that I got to look for.

After leaving the lake, I went to Anna’s Taqueria in Newton. I got a burrito, and it was very good. It was also cheap, so I would highly recommend it. They have something called a “super super” burrito, which I want to try in the future.

Sunday morning arrived and it was time for my battle. I had to move from my lovely room on the fourth floor of Pomeroy to my new dorm, Shafer. I lived in Shafer last year so I was excited to be back there. I was only moving approx. 150 meters which severely deincentived me from being efficient in the process. While I love Wellesley’s historical charm, I was not full of happiness while I was trying to wheel my moving cart over the brick path in front of my dorm. The hardest part was getting my fairly large mini-fridge down a flight of stairs, but it was worth it. I love my mini-fridge. After several trips with a large bin, I was mostly done by about noon, which was my goal since it was getting warmer.

In the afternoon, I began decorating. I think dorm decor has a direct effect on my happiness about my room. I have a lot of legos and prints, which I definitely recommend, and magnets for my minifridge.

On Sunday night, I explored the Cochituate Rail Trail near Framingham and Natick.  I saw lots of rabbits, and another creature in the dark that was larger than a dog, but I don’t know what it was. Anyway, I passed several lakes and plaques explaining the history of the area. I’ve really enjoyed exploring more around Wellesley this summer and I can’t believe it’s almost over.

Best,

Elise
