MTV (WC): Welcome To My Crib

Hello Blog,

That’s right. It’s time for a long overdue dorm tour!!! This year I’m living in Pomeroy Hall (Pom <3) for my third year, which I think should make me an honorary “lifer” (someone who lives in the same dorm all 4 years). I got super lucky this year and am living in a block with 4 of my friends on the 5th floor on Pom. On the floor, there are only 5 single rooms, a bathroom, and a kitchenette. So basically, we have the penthouse 🙂

First, we have my door:

A door covered in decorative objects.

It’s pretty standard for Wellesley students to decorate their doors with “door tags”  for each of their organizations. I have door tags for CMS (chamber music society) and the Guild of Carillonneurs. I also have some random trinkets like my glasses from the solar eclipse last year, a spoon from Yogurtland Pasadena (one of my favorite spots this summer) and a cute ceramic acorn lanyard that my friend got me as a gift last year.

View of a window looking out into a sunny courtyard with a disco ball hanging over the top of the window.

A fixture of all my dorm rooms after first year has been my curtain + disco ball + origami paper crane combination on every window. I love how it looks, and my absolute favorite time in my room is when the light reflects off of my disco ball. When I can, I love having some flowers on the windowsill – this picture is some flowers from Flower Sunday at the beginning of the semester. On my wall is my hoop for hoop rolling, another Wellesley tradition. It’s also tradition for upperclassmen to pass their hoops down to underclassmen, so my hoop is from my friend who graduated in the class of 2023, and I have a friend in the class of 2026 who I’ll give it to when I graduate.

A poster hanging over a bed with a stuffed animal on it.

As you can see, I get some really nice light from my window! My Gilmore Girls poster has also been in my room (usually above my bed) all four years. And what is a dorm room without some stuffed animals?

A couch sitting under a wall covered in a collage.

Finally, we have my little sitting area. Look at that reflection from the disco ball! My couch is from someone who was moving out my sophomore year and didn’t want to keep it. Fun fact, both of my little lamps I also got for free – the end of the year is my favorite time to go shopping through the abandoned items from seniors. The little collage on my wall is just random things I’ve accumulated over the past 4 years – polaroids, postcards, bookmarks, ticket stubs, etc etc. I always have a fun time setting it up at the beginning of the year.

You can’t see it super well, but on top of my bookshelf I have an assortment of sentimental trinkets. I have a frog stuffed animal and a crochet frog that were gifts from graduate students in my lab this summer (we were a frog lab). I have a mini “mole” stuffed animal that I got from the chemistry table at the academic festival for first years at the beginning of my first year (in 2021!). There’s also a little hoop with embroidered cherry blossoms from my friend who was a bit of an embroidery influencer at one point.

The only thing not pictured is my dresser and giant closet, but that’s about it! I love my space, and I’m going to be so sad to leave it at the end of the year.

Until next time,

Jade <3
