New Month – New Goals!!!

Hello beautiful people,

Happy new month! The countdown before the first day of classes (FDOC) has officially begun!! I have been reflecting on the mistakes I’ve made when it comes to goal setting for academics…and here are the ones I’ve fallen victim to (esp 3#):

  1. I set too many goals! This is also known as FANTASY PLANNING…it’s like I just couldn’t let go of wanting the outcomes ALL within the space of a semester. So I told myself I’d do it even though it was backed up by no realistic plan timewise. Then I felt lousy at the end of the semester with exams and trying to keep my other goals intact and manage friendships too, and guess what? I still did not achieve the goals.
  2. I set a goal….put it on my visionboard….but did not break it down or plan it out on my calendar. You have to “flesh out” the plan and create details. Listen, by the end of the academic year, I clearly had made no moves on this goal or even started because it felt big and overwhelming.
  3. I tried to DIY the goal, instead of getting help from the professor or teaching assistant. In the past, I have been stuck on one goal. There comes a time when you have to look yourself in the eyes and see that DIY ain’t working! Yeah you COULD do it alone, but why haven’t you successfully done so!? Maybe you need HELP, accountability, support….to do SOMETHING differently!
  4. I lost track of the goal and put it on hold because life just happened and I didn’t have the time. Listen, you have time for the things you consider a priority period. I had to relearn my whole outlook on time.

So if you want to know WHAT to do DIFFERENTLY to avoid those pitfalls, learn from my experiences!

See you next week!

Best,
