Hi all,
Winter break was a magical time—a time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the people and activities that ground us. For me, this year’s winter break was a much-needed opportunity to step back from the busy rhythm of college life and embrace everything that makes home so special. From rediscovering my stride in running after an injury to reconnecting with old friends, here’s a recap of my break.
Running Back Into Form
As someone preparing for lacrosse season, being sidelined by an injury earlier this year was tough. Winter break offered the perfect chance to ease back into running and conditioning. I started slowly, focusing on listening to my body and celebrating small victories. With each run and workout, I felt stronger and more confident, and grateful for the joy of moving again. It reminded me how much I value fitness not just as a form of exercise but as a way to clear my mind and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Balancing Work and Rest
Over the break, I also returned to my retail job. There’s something satisfying about being back in a familiar role, interacting with customers, and contributing to a team. While the holiday rush was hectic, I appreciated the structure it brought to my days. Balancing work with rest was key, and I made it a point to carve out time to recharge after shifts—whether that meant watching a movie with my sister, enjoying a home-cooked meal, or even just being home with my family.
Reconnecting with Old Friends
Winter break wouldn’t be complete without catching up with old friends. These reunions are always special—filled with laughter, nostalgia, and updates on our evolving lives. Whether we were reminiscing about high school memories or dreaming about the future, these moments reminded me of the importance of maintaining these connections. It’s a comforting reminder that no matter where life takes us, some friendships remain steadfast.
Cherishing Family Time
Spending time with family was another highlight of the break. From sharing meals around the table to watching movies and taking long walks, these moments were simple yet meaningful. Being home allowed me to fully appreciate the comfort and support of family—their encouragement as I got back into running, their humor during casual evenings, and their love that feels like an anchor.
The Comfort of Home
There’s something about being home that invites reflection and restoration. For me, it’s the familiar sights and sounds, the slower pace, and the chance to fully unwind. I made the most of this time by organizing my space, journaling, and simply enjoying the feeling of being present. It was a reminder to find joy in life’s quieter moments and to carry that sense of calm back to college with me.
Looking Ahead
As winter break has now been over for what feels like forever, I feel a renewed sense of energy and gratitude even with the stress of the semester rising. Returning to running, working, reconnecting with friends, and cherishing family time has filled my cup in so many ways even if it feels busy now. With these memories in tow, I’m ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead with a full heart and a clear mind.
Until next week,
Anna Tutek
