Hi all,
Welcome back to Wellesley or welcome to Wellesley, new students and visitors! Whether it is your fourth year on campus or your first, the start of classes can be a whirlwind of emotions and so many syllabi. Enjoy the little moments in between and take time for yourself. Go for a walk around the lake, have lunch on the patio of Lulu, or even stroll through the Ville to take a look at all of the pretty flowers and trees. While you start to figure out what you love about Wellesley, let me use this as a chance to share a bit about myself and what I already know I love about Wellesley.
For those of you who have not yet read my posts, this blog is going to be a classic get to know me with some of my favorite Wellesley spots to enjoy. To start off, my name is Anna Tutek, and I use she/her pronouns. I am a junior this year and am majoring in psychology. Outside of school I am a defender on the lacrosse team and a volunteer student teacher at the Children’s Study Center (CSC) on campus! I live with my family in Trumbull, Connecticut and have a younger brother and sister. My sister’s name is Amelia, and she is fifteen years old. My brother is twelve years old, and his name is William. I am very close with my family and often see them at my lacrosse games in the spring months.
This semester I am studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland at Trinity College (pictured above!). I am taking five psychology courses as well as one English course. Studying abroad was not always on my radar, and to be honest I did not think I would ever study in another country. However, close to half of Wellesley juniors choose to study abroad, and so far it has been an experience I am extremely grateful for. As I am away from campus this fall, my posts might vary from my usual on campus blogs, but I think this will be an interesting perspective and hopefully be helpful for anyone else who may be on the fence about studying abroad!
At Wellesley, I absolutely love to go on walks. There are so many hidden walking trails and paths not only around the lake but also throughout the layout of the academic buildings. Walking and being outside is one of my favorite pastimes. Bonus points if you do a little loop into downtown (commonly called the Ville) to grab a coffee from Starbucks and then continue walking around the edge of the Ville past the train stop (called the T) and make a loop back into campus. The end of September into October is the absolute best time to see all of the gorgeous New England scenery change from bright green to an autumnal orange.
Aside from walking and being outdoors, I enjoy watching other teams’ sporting events at Wellesley. As a student-athlete, the experience of juggling so much at once can be really challenging and frankly overwhelming. Showing support for other sibs as they excel at the sport they love is a unifying experience and an excellent way to foster school pride. I remember during my first year I met up with some friends to watch the volleyball game. Truth be told, I had never seen a volleyball game before then but having a common topic to talk about was a perfect icebreaker. That group of friends are now some of my closest friends at school! There are so many ways to meet new people and enjoy Wellesley, and these have just been a few of my favorites.
Until next week then,
Anna Tutek
