Hello Blog,
Welcome back to another (and final </3) year of reading my Wellesley blogs! For a quick round of reintroductions: my name is Jade, I’m officially a senior at Wellesley College (go green class!), I’m a chemistry major and a music minor, and I do a few things on campus, namely being the president of the chamber music society (I play the cello!), playing the bells in the Guild of Carillonneurs (#dingdong), doing DNA research in a biophysics lab on campus (working on my thesis this year!), and working every job I possibly can in the Office of Admission (seriously, I think I’m at 4 now). Phew, that was a lot, but it’s great to be reacquainted!
But what have I been up to? As I mentioned at the end of last year, I was off to spend my summer away from the Wellesley College campus for the first time in 3 years! I did indeed travel, and I spent the majority of my summer in sunny southern California doing research at Caltech. I spent my previous 2 summers doing research on-campus at Wellesley, so joining a completely different lab was an awesome experience! I learned so many new skills, met really kind people, and feel like I have even more direction for what I want to pursue after I graduate.
Before I went there though, I spent a couple of weeks at home with my family and visited my friends who were doing the Wellesley in Washington program in Washington, DC. I had such a good time rejuvenating after the end of the spring semester and hitting 4 museums a day in DC while my friends were at work.
As for this semester, I have lots planned! For coursework, I’m technically taking my last class for the chemistry major (but I’m going to take more chemistry classes in the spring because, surprise, I love chemistry). I’m also taking a biochemistry Calderwood Seminar in Public Writing, which will be a great contrast to my honors thesis that I’m also writing this semester. Finally, I’m taking my music performance seminar again and working on my senior recital. Of course, college is more than just courses, and I’m really trying to soak up my last year at Wellesley, so strap in for some senior year sentimentality, post-grad panic, and much more!
Until next time,
Jade <3
