Studying, singing, and fire alarms

Hi everyone!

Somehow we are already four weeks into the semester, and yet I feel like I just came back to Wellesley yesterday. I have been super busy with my classes and my thesis, but I have also really been enjoying them. My PHYS 304 class has been taking up a lot of my time for the past few weeks, but it is insanely satisfying when your devices actually work and you get data from them. This past week, we have been building small alpha particle detectors, and I have been enjoying the whole process from building the operational circuit to the actual engineering of the box and the detector. Things with my thesis have also been moving forward; I have mostly been working on some coding stuff and figuring out how to use the data we get and the different operation modes.

I have also been working hard on balancing academics and my social life, which I think is especially important when you are juggling so many different things. So, I am determined to also tell you about the fun things I get to do. Two weekends ago, two of my friends from my summer internship in Long Island came up to Boston to visit me and spend some time in Boston. It was really nice to see them and show them around my home-away-from-home. Last weekend, I also went to see Hamilton since they are showing it in the cinema. It was a really fun experience singing my heart out surrounded by people who were equally as excited to be there.

Something fun from this week was that I went to the Shawn Mendes concert in TD Garden with one of my friends on Thursday night. The whole experience was really fun, but my favorite moment was definitely the end, when the fire alarm in the arena got triggered…and no one cared. They told us that the sparks on stage had triggered it, so it was not an actual emergency, and Shawn Mendes just continued signing, while the alarm was going off in the background. Given how often I’ve heard false fire alarms at Wellesley, I have gotten very used to the sound of those alarms, so this was not my first rodeo.

That’s it from me for now. See you again next week!
