Thanksgiving Break on Campus

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a nice and stress-free Thanksgiving break if you celebrate that holiday. As I am an international student, I didn’t grow up with this holiday. So, this month was only the second time I ever celebrated it. I know that the origins of this holiday are complicated, but I do think that a holiday that emphasizes being thankful and reflecting on the things you are thankful for is important.

I spent this break on campus, which was honestly really restful. I spent some time alone, just enjoying the stress-free environment. I watched a lot of shows (including The Neighbourhood and The Queen’s Gambit) and read some books (I finally read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and I really loved it). Speaking of that book, my friends and I went to Framingham over the weekend (that’s where the closest cinema is) and watched the new Hunger Games movie that came out. I honestly enjoyed every second of it, and the songs are still stuck in my head.

On Thanksgiving, during the day, Slater, the international students center, organized a lunch with traditional Thanksgiving food. It was a great way to include international students in the holiday and a reason for us to come together. The food was really delicious, and I felt at peace among my peers.

Later during that day, my friends and I hosted our own Friendsgiving dinner. We did the trend where everyone had to bring a food that starts with the same letter as the first letter in their name. On my part, I made a veggie and cheese plate that was a hit—who would have thought that the carrots would be so popular! We danced, we played some games, and we just enjoyed each other’s company. It’s easy to feel alone when you are so far away from home, but there are always people at Wellesley that bring me a sense of belonging.

That’s it from me for this week. Stay safe!
