The different jobs I have had on campus!

Hello everyone!

I know that some of you must be curious about working on campus once you come to Wellesley—I know I was when I was preparing for college. That’s why in this blog post I wanted to share more about the different jobs I have had here and my experiences with them.

A very popular job on campus is being a grader for a certain course. Basically, what you do is you apply through Workday, the students portal that Wellesley uses, to grade assignments from a class that you have previously taken. What usually happens is that the professor for the class gives you the answer key, and you grade all the homework that they give you. The job is relatively easy and chill, and the best part is how flexible it is—if I chose to, I can grade things at 6 am or at 11 pm!

Another popular job is working for the PLTC (the Pforzheimer Learning and Teaching Center): I am a tutor for them. To become a tutor, you need to have taken the class that you are planning to tutor for and apply or be appointed by the professor. Being a tutor involves holding office hours throughout the week where students from the class can come and ask you questions or work on their homework. I’m currently tutoring for two classes—ECON101 and MATH116. I’m really enjoying the experience, but the job is rather demanding, and you have to be flexible with your time.

One of my favorite jobs on campus is being a teaching assistant at the Wellesley Community Children’s Center (a daycare center located on our campus). There, I help the teachers in the different rooms, each with kids of different ages. This semester I work with the toddlers, which I absolutely adore because I love being around children in general, so I have been enjoying this job a lot.

There are also some short-term jobs on campus. For example, last year I worked during Friends and Family Weekend. This is a weekend when a lot of family members and friends of students come to campus, and there are many events for them. I was giving tours around campus, giving directions, and checking people in. This was a great experience because it was super fun, and since it is considered a special event, the hours I worked during it didn’t count towards the 15 hour weekly limit that Wellesley has for hours worked for on-campus jobs.

That’s it from me for this week! Stay safe!
