Hello Blog,
It’s been a very exciting past week on campus! After some seasonally confusing sleet/snow last week, the groundhog seems to have finally wrangled the weather to be much nicer. We’ve had lots of sun recently! I keep seeing videos on social media about how colleges start to “college” when the weather gets nicer, and this couldn’t be more true! It’s so lovely to go outside and see everyone sitting on the classic college adirondack chairs and picnic blankets. Wellesley’s campus is perfect for lounging about or taking a leisurely walk.
On Monday, there was the eclipse, and Wellesley experienced 93% totality. The weather was perfect, and the skies were clear. I was actually leading a campus tour during the time of the eclipse, and the Office of Admission gave everyone glasses so we could observe it safely. I got to talk to a few prospective families about Wellesley while we periodically stopped to watch the eclipse. The observatory on campus also gave out glasses, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many students out and about during the middle of the day. Professors either canceled classes or brought their entire classes outside. There was something so cute and human about everyone squinting up at the sun with silly paper glasses.
This past weekend was also packed with music – there were three student recitals, including my own. First, was my friend Sydney’s carillon recital (I played a duet on the bells too)! Carillon recitals are always fun and casual because everyone just sits in the academic quad and listens to the bells. Next, was my recital on Sunday. I was so nervous, but it went well! I almost started crying when I saw my friends right before I went on stage. The fact that so many of my friends from all over campus showed up to hear me play made me pretty emotional. I’m super relieved that it’s over, but I’m actually looking forward to my recital next year already. Finally, I closed Sunday evening by attending a piano senior recital, which was phenomenal.
Finally, the Boston Marathon is coming up this Monday. I’ll have more to say about this in my blog post next week, but this is a huge day of celebration at Wellesley because we’re the halfway point. My friends helped me make signs to cheer my uncle on because he’ll be running the marathon this year. The weekend is also packed with on-campus festivities including the announcement party for the LDOC artist (the performer who plays a concert on the last day of classes). I hope you’re looking forward to next week’s blog because I sure am!
Until next time,
